Exterior of the ACT Jewish Community Center in Canberra

We hope all IJAANZ’s members and friends have had a wonderful start to 2023! The IJAANZ team has been busy behind the scenes preparing for what promises to be an eventful 2023.

The Australian Jewish Historical Society ACT (AJHS ACT) and the ACT Jewish Community (ACTJC) hosted a major event at their Jewish Museum on 7 May, 2023 . The event was attended by His Excellency High Commissioner Manpreet Vohra, High Commissioner of India, Her Excellency Mrs. Vohra, and more than 50 ACTJC congregants and friends.

ACTJC members and friends, the local Indian and wider population, as well as visitors to Australia’s beautiful capital city, an opportunity to immerse themselves in what is surely a feel-good story of tolerance and inclusivity in a troubled world. I would like to sincerely thank AJHS and ACTJC Presidents Adele Rosalky and David Rosalky respectively  for their deep dedication and commitment to hosting this event, and to Professor Waronker for his continued support.

In other news, the historic Keneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue in South Mumbai was granted UNESCO’s Asia-Pacific Award of Merit. The Synagogue was restored and renovated with generous funds from Mumbai’s JSW Foundation. which saw its value “not just to the Jewish community but to all Indians.” This is yet another example of the generosity and tolerance of the host country towards the Jewish people. Read about this and other stories in our latest e-magazine here.

We look forward to seeing you at our events throughout this year. Thank you for your continued support for our work.
